Synopsis :
Uda & Dara is back again! This time the Petronas Performing Arts Group (PPAG) have taken it upon themselves to present the late Dato' Dr Usman Awangs timeless Malaysian love story.
This tragic love story, set amidst a farming community during Malaysia's pre-independence era, tells the story of Uda and Dara, two lovers from opposite sides of society; Uda from the lower rungs and Dara from the upper crust. They face obstacles in their romance thanks to this divide. Alang Bakhil, Dara's scheming uncle, tries to destroy the lover's relationship by influencing Dara's mother to find a son-in-law who has the same status as Dara. This sends Uda to the bright lights of the city to seek his fortune, which enrages Dara's uncle who then tries other means to dispose of Uda.
The performance boasts a whole new music score, composed by PPAG's acclaimed Mohd Yazid Zakaria and Yuzaifullah Mohd Yusof. As part of Petronas' constant efforts to preserve traditional art forms, the performance adopts the traditional theatre approach of 'randai', an essential element that embraces both classic and modern Malay musical aspects. Working under this 'randai' approach, the traditional elements like zapin, asli, inang and boria are blended with modern music to enhance the dramatic sequences of the show.
Uda and Dara will be the last performance staged by the PPAG under the Malaysiana Series 04/05 series and will be held at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP).
